Kindle e-ink e-reader instructions
Use these instructions to
download free Cape Girardeau Public Library e-books to your Kindle e-ink
e-reader such as the original Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, or Kindle Keyboard.
You may use one of two methods to download library e-books to your Kindle e-reader – directly on your Kindle or by using a desktop or laptop computer and then downloading the chosen title(s) to your Kindle device.
Method 1: Downloading Titles Directly To Your Kindle E-Reader
1. With your Kindle e-reader connected to Wi-Fi, open the experimental browser by clicking on the three lines on the top right side of the screen then choosing “Experimental Browser.”
2. Go to the Cape Girardeau Public Library website by typing capelibrary.org into the address bar of the browser. Click “load full site” on the bottom of the page.
3. Click on “click here” under the Downloadables information box on the bottom right side of the page.
4. You will now in on a new page called “Missouri Libraries 2 Go.” Click “Sign In” on the top right side of the page. Start typing in “Cape Girardeau” and choose “Cape Girardeau Public Library” from the drop-down menu. Type in your library card number. If you leave the checkbox next to “Remember my login information on this device” checked, you will not have to do this step in the future.
5. Click the outline of the person. Click “settings.” You may now change your default lending period to 14 or 21 days instead of 7 and change the appearance of the site. Click “save” at the bottom of the page when you are finished making changes.
6. You are now ready to download library e-books. You may only download books in the Kindle e-book format to this device. E-ink Kindle devices are not capable of playing audiobooks.
7. To search, you may simply click the magnifying glass and type in the title or author you wish to find. If you do not have a particular title or author in mind, you may browse by clicking the three lines next to the outline of the person or by choosing advanced search.
8. Once you find a title you wish to download, click the book cover and then click the “Borrow” button on that page (if you see “Place a hold” instead of borrow, the book is checked out. If you click “place a hold,” you will receive an email when that title becomes available.).
9. You will now see that book in your bookshelf. Click “Download” and choose “Kindle Book.” Click “Confirm & Download.” You will be redirected to amazon.com, where you will see the book you chose. On the right side of the page, click the “Get Library Book” button to download it to your device.
10. You will be prompted to sign into your Amazon account. If you do not have one, you will be prompted to create one. If you have more than one device registered with Amazon.com, you will now need to choose the Kindle device you are currently using from the drop-down menu and click “continue.”
11. Click the home icon in the top left side of the screen. You will now see the title on your bookshelf. Click it to start reading!
It is recommended that you put your Kindle e-ink e-reader in airplane mode when reading to save battery power. To do so, click the three lines on the top right side of the page, click “settings,” and click the button next to “Airplane Mode.”
Method 2: Choosing titles on a computer and transferring them wirelessly to your Kindle device.
1. On your desktop or laptop computer, go to capelibrary.org. Click on “click here” under the Downloadables information box on the bottom right side of the page.
2. You will now in on a new page called “Missouri Libraries 2 Go.” Click “Sign In” on the top right side of the page. Start typing in “Cape Girardeau” and choose “Cape Girardeau Public Library” from the drop-down menu. Type in your library card number. If you leave the checkbox next to “Remember my login information on this device” checked, you will not have to do this step in the future.

If you have more than one device registered with Amazon.com, you will now need to choose the Kindle device you are currently using from the drop-down menu and click “continue.”
4. If you are already signed into your Amazon account, you will need to choose the device you wish to have your library book delivered to in the drop-down menu under the yellow “Get Library Book” button on the right side of the page. Once you have chosen the device you wish to use, click the “Get Library Book” button.
5. The next time you connect your Kindle e-ink e-reader to Wi-Fi, your book should automatically be downloaded to your device. If it does not automatically download when you connect your device to Wi-Fi, click the three lines on the top right side of your kindle and choose “Sync and Check for Items.”
6. Your library e-book is now on your Kindle. Click the title to start reading!
